The Fly draft - 5 returning men to watch

The first selections for the Men’s draft for The Fly 2024 will be revealed on Thursday 1 February with the four teams selecting eleven players each to complete their 15-player rosters for this year’s competition.

Here we take a look at some of the returning names in a hot men’s players pool stacked full of talent and up for grabs in the 2024 draft.

Ryan Hunns – A rolls-royce of a player who is surely one of the most gifted talents to play the game in England, Ryan Hunns is likely to be a feature on every team’s wish list as he enters the 2024 draft.

Third highest goalscorer in the The Fly men’s competition, top scorer in 2022, a double winner and two-time all-star pick with Rise, the Heaton Mersey man is also currently the top point scorer in the NEMLA Premier with a whopping 49 points.

With Rise holding the first pick of the ’24 draft, will the England and GB international return to familiar surroundings or might they head down a different route and leave him free for another side to swoop?

Rob Harris – A winner with Rise in 2022, followed up with 17 goals last year leading the Forge attack, Harris is up for pick in the draft and on offer to all four teams again for 2024.

A Canadian leftie with a strong box lacrosse upbringing, Harris recently top scored for the Knights in winning the 2023 Winter Box League and with two years’ experience within the Sixes game at The Fly he looks a very smart option for a team wanting guaranteed goals.

Danny Hilditch – Another option for coaches in the draft that should be good for goals is the returning Danny Hilditch.

A fearless leftie attackman with a deadly eye for goal, Hilditch tallied a huge 18 goals in his one and so far only year at The Fly playing for Swift in 2021.

Since then, he led the attack for England at the U21 World Championship tallying 20 points and sufficiently impressed to be fast-tracked through to earn a spot on the England squad the Senior World Championship just 12 months later as well as scoring 20 goals for British Lacrosse at the EuroLax Sixes.

Ming Trinh – Following 2021 & 2023 seasons with Forge, the 28-year-old midfielder, named in the ’23 all-star squad, is now up for grabs across the draft pool with strong competition predicted in recruiting the Heaton Mersey man.

Trinh has proven highly dependable at both ends of the pitch across multiple formats offering a strong defensive game and possessing a quick turn of pace to set up fast transition which can be devastating in the Sixes format.

He is both a member of the British Lacrosse Sixes training squad, previously competing for them at EuroLax Sixes picking up 7 goals, and the England Box squad, winning gold at the European Championship in 2022.

Ryan Sweetman – A real two-way powerhouse known for his non-stop engine, relentlessly getting up and down the Sixes field to produce talismanic performances for his side.

Swift Captain and all-star team member in 2021, the now Stockport midfielder has put up good returns so far this season with 20 points and is sure to have the same impact at The Fly.

Sweetman has played the game at the highest level at Field World Championships with England and the recent World Games Sixes with British Lacrosse and will bring skill, experience and leadership to whichever Head Coach manages to add him to their roster – And he may go fast!
