The Fly Sixes Lacrosse 2024 drafted players announced
Last week, The Fly Sixes Lacrosse 2024 Draft took place where the Head Coaches were given the opportunity to pick 11 players to complete their squads for this year’s competition.
The players were chosen in an American-style draft that saw each Head Coach take it in turns to pick 11 players over 11 rounds of picks.
These 11 drafted players were then added to the four already announced Protected Players for each team who return to their respective The Fly franchises after representing them in 2023.
After the draft, the squads for the eight teams taking part in The Fly 2024 are complete with each containing 15 players.
The big news out of the draft was the very first picks signalling the most sought after players as Hustle women chose England international and World Championship bronze medallist, Georgie Southorn.
Also selected in the first round of draft picks were England internationals and previous The Fly winners, Katie Greenwood (Rise), Alice Ripper (Swift), and Sofia Wise (Forge).
In the men’s competition, Rise chose goalie and experienced Wales international Casey Hughes as their first pick as Head Coach Ash Gloster looked to bolster her defensive capabilities.
The other men’s players chosen in the first round of draft picks were three hugely talented and experienced England internationals: Tim Collins (Forge), Tommy Kirkland (Swift), and Michael Pomfret (Hustle), the latter two of which return to The Fly after representing Rise in previous seasons.
