Forge Women trio retained as protected players
The first protected players for The Fly 2023 have been announced with Emilie Chandler, Liv Wimpenny, and Sofia Wise all returning to last year’s champions, Forge Women.
Head Coach Alex Carnegie-Brown has locked in her three protected players, with the Head Coach of each Women’s side allowed to retain three players from the 2021 or 2022 squads to spearhead their 2023 teams.
Emilie Chandler – An undoubted star of the Sixes format, Forge Women’s captain from 2021 and 2022 returns to the team for the third consecutive year.
Chandler represented Great Britain at the recent World Games Sixes, as well as winning the National Club and European Club Field Championships in 2022 with Blues LC.
A livewire between the pipes, Chandler has shown to be just as effective with her pinpoint passing as with her shot-stopping, recording numerous assists at The Fly by turning defence into attack with her long-range accuracy and leading from the back as team captain.
Liv Wimpenny – A returning member of the 2021 Forge Women squad, Liv Wimpenny is an England and GB Sixes international with a strong pedigree.
A Blues teammate of Chandler’s, Wimpenny also tasted additional success last year as part of England’s World Championship bronze medal winning squad.
A marauding midfielder, Wimpenny was Forge’s top goal scorer in the first edition of the competition and her firepower will give Forge a formidable threat again this year.
Sofia Wise - A youngster with huge skill, Sofia bagged 10 goals at The Fly 2022 and adds even more strength in depth to Forge’s attacking options.
At just 19 years of age, Sofia has already represented England at Sixes internationally and was part of the England U23 team to win the World Championship festival last year.
In 2022, Sofia helped Forge to The Fly crown, university side Nottingham Trent to promotion to the BUCS Premier North, and will now be hoping to help Forge Women win once again in 2023.
