Claire Faram hunting the title at The Fly 2023

Claire Faram knows The Fly all too well after competing in the inaugural tournament in 2021 and, after a year-long break from the competition due to clashes with the World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship last year, she’s back and raring to go.

“I’m really excited for playing at The Fly 2023. I’m really excited to return to what will hopefully be a highly competitive tournament, obviously playing the sixes format: a really exciting, fast-paced version of lacrosse!”

Claire first took to the field as a Rise player at the first ever event in 2021 where she helped guide her side to a third place finish. As she makes her return as the Rise Women’s Team Icon she can’t hide her enthusiasm ahead of the first competition day in May.

“It’s such a massive honour to be asked to be a Rise Icon. When I think of an icon I’m thinking of Madonna!

“But I was really excited to be asked and I think being someone who people look to to lead the team and be that person who’s going to help out the younger players as well it’s really exciting.”

As a teacher and lacrosse coach at Putney High School, Claire is relishing the opportunity to help the next generation of lacrosse star shine and believes these are important events in the growth of a young player.

“There’s that quote: “if you can see it, you can be it”, and what’s really good about The Fly is that we’re shining a light on the sport we all love and hopefully lots of young girls will be watching.

“Especially with Putney being just down the road [from Rosslyn Park FC], we’ll be hoping to get lots of the girls to come and watch but I think being able to inspire the next generation of lacrosse players is really exciting.”

Claire’s England Head Coach, Michael Molster, is also taking up the Rise Head Coach mantle and this is something she’s looking forward to after seeing him in action over the past few years in the England set-up.

“Michael’s a great coach; I’m really excited to be playing under him both for England and for Rise.

“He obviously has a really huge amount of experience having coached out in the US for various NCAA Division 1 teams so he brings a huge amount of knowledge.

“We had our first training session with Michael the other week and he’s definitely brought a new level of professionalism, lots of exciting new drills, new ideas, and I think you can expect the unexpected from him!”

With a third place spot already under her belt, Claire has her sights set on much higher things in 2023.

“I’m backing Rise all the way! I don’t even know who’s on Rise yet but I’m still backing us blindly. Rise ‘til I die!”

Claire will make her second The Fly debut during the opening weekend on 14 May and you can buy tickets to see her Rise team as well as Swift, Forge, and Hustle HERE.
